ABOUT Maria

Hello, I'm Maria

I have always enjoyed dabbling in art, from pencil drawings to free-form clay figures, to the work you see on this site.  My imagination comes to life when I see something that entices my creativity.

I started making the original ‘dolls’, or what I refer to as ‘Luna ladies’, when I moved to Arizona in 2008.

I had a large stash of fabrics, textiles and beads that I purchased from my travels.  Like many of us, the question was, “what to do with all these amazing finds”?  I didn’t want them to sit in a drawer and not be appreciated, hence, the ‘doll’.

Many of my clients requested I make pieces that could be mounted, so I started creating my work in shadow boxes.  Similar to my original dolls, a beautiful piece of fabric or an incredible piece of jewelry will stimulate my creativity.

I started painting in 2019.  The world was in the mist of Covid, many of us, at times, felt isolated.  Through my paintings, I wanted to express human strength, unity and joy with hands raised, honoring the sun and the moon.

I hope you enjoy my Luna Ladies and paintings as much as I have enjoyed creating them!

What People Are Saying

We have been working with Maria for over seven years.  She has made many custom pieces for us and we have collaborated on designs and colors. We have found that she always has provided more quality, creativity than asked for and expected, and her attention to detail is incredible.

One of the fun parts of her creations is the ability to add something personal to the piece – a memorable piece of fabric, colors to work in a room or a personal momento to make her creations very special. As part of her work Maria uses many recycled and repurposed materials.  I have made many stands for her work as part of my hobby, also using as many recycled materials as possible and adapting discarded items for her use, to make many unique pieces. Her art, designs and style continue to evolve, so there is always something new to see."
